science lesson starters

digital notebook versions – i am in the process of transitioning to 100% digital notebooks for science class work. i also wanted a way to minimize the amount of class time (shorter class periods this year) we used for these. ”  students will be required to have the day’s challenge completed before coming to class. the notebooks will be turned in on fridays after we discuss that day’s challenge. (check out the notes to the right of each slide for details.) i can duplicate slides to edit for student notebooks and save the entire set as pngs that will be used as backgrounds. master slides digital template (ppt download) – this template is similar in layout to my teacher master, but does not have the daily challenges.

i have added directions on the side of the slides to help you. another bonus with digital versions… students who are remote will still be able to complete the challenges and then send them to me to be checked. i can easily print copies of the slides if needed for students who do not have internet. i will update the page as i learn new tricks and find more tools to help me make the switch to digital. links for more ideas … internet4teachers – daily doses – scroll down this page to find the science section with links to websites with ideas for class challenges. pbs wired science podcasts – create a warm-up using one of the podcasts available from this site. use their site search to find podcaasts on the topics you need!

starters for science is a series of five-minute videos created to support teachers to get started with practical science enquiry. this means that teachers can do science enquiry with a class and any children who are at home can do the same lesson. they are intended to give children valuable practical experiences that they will then be able to draw on once they meet the relevant concepts in a more formal learning situation.
