the strategy is exactly as it sounds- have students complete a “close read” of the painting. having students tableau the beginning, middle, and end of a story which they’ve read or written is a great way to ensure they’re clearly identifying the elements of a story. remember, you don’t have to be an expert on the masterpiece, you simply need to help the students explore it. this can be extended by allowing students to experiment with the technique found in the masterpiece. choose what works best for your students and the amount of time you have. set your students up for success by using these creative morning meeting activities as a solid routine they can count on.
