first, i determine the concept to be taught. with the point of the lesson firmly in mind, i carefully select two sets of examples related to this concept–positive examples and negative examples. for example, i have found that the first time i try this activity with a group of kids, many do not know what a category is and many do not know how to make a hypothesis. then i type, “new york” in the first “yes” cell and “sofa” in the first “no” cell, like this: “based on this evidence, what category do i have in mind?”
then, i write the title “harry potter and the goblet of fire,” in the “yes” column. once i have realized that students have connected the name of the concept with the characteristics of the concept, we construct this definition of a proper noun (which i type for all to see): proper nouns name particular people, places, or things. the first and easiest option would be to ask students to give me additional examples of proper nouns and explain the characteristics that make them proper nouns. i have used the concept attainment teaching method frequently over the course of my career. i think you’ll be amazed at the effect it has on your kids.
this strategy comes from a book i can’t seem to get enough of: the strategic teacher, by silver, strong, and perini. i use a lot of technology in the classroom, as the school in which i teach is a `1:1 ipad school, but sometimes it is nice to shut the technology off. i had a phenomenal support teacher in my room most days who was my “cheerleader” and didn’t let me throw in the towel. the kids love it and i love watching them figure things out. this is such a great way to teach classification and a great way to get the kids communicating!!
i just want to ask some suggestion if i were to use inductive method as an approach what is the best topic i should consider? btw, another strategy from the silver book that uses the inductive learning method that you might explain to your readers is “mystery.” i use mystery in every unit. if you get a chance, i would love to hear more about what the pictures contain and what the kids come up with. i just came across your blog and i am just wondering if you ever read the research that these teaching methods are based on? i listen to a lot of economic podcasts and they always talk about studies and the validity of them. i love the information, sharing…so fantastically rejuvenating!
like the other teaching methods that appear on these pages, planning a concept attainment lesson involves planning the activity, executing the activity, inductive learning takes the traditional sequence of a lesson and reverses things. instead of saying, “here is the knowledge; lesson plan. inductive model. 1- planning the lesson : 1.1 topic “verbs not to confuse”. 1.2 objectives a – content : students will be able to., inductive lesson plan pdf, inductive lesson plan pdf, inductive lesson plan in english pdf, example of inductive lesson plan in english, inductive method lesson plan in english.
