students will be able to learn long u and o while learning and practicing the silent e rule. the students will apply this skill while reading and writing sentences with words using silent e. -the teacher will introduce the lesson by discussing the vowels long o and u and naming some words that have each of those vowels. allow students to get up and move around and act like ninjas while watching silent e is a ninja. -using the videos that were used for the introduction to this lesson, the teacher will have students point out what they saw happening with the words and the vowel sounds when the silent e was added. using fairness sticks, students will come up and find words that follow the silent e rule.
-while this activity is happening, the students will be making a list in their writing journals of the silent e words we come across. -the students will work with a partner reading both of the decodable books on a computer or tablet and will hold each other accountable for saying the words correctly using the new silent e rule. -using the list of silent e words we compiled during this lesson, and any other ones we discussed, the students will be using storybird.com on a laptop to create a story of their own. -to conclude this lesson, the students will get an opportunity of the span of a couple days to share their story with their classmates. -they will then be able to share with the teacher and the class the story they created using our new silent e words. -the students will get to watch the silent e is a ninja video again and act like ninjas around the classroom.
