we strive to help our calworks students obtain lifelong learning through education, and gain access to the work force and a new career, while providing support services that help ensure a successful transition by providing educational and career opportunities combined with an array of high-quality support services that enable students to complete their educational goals, find meaningful employment, and successfully transition into the workforce. this means that the students are able to register for classes before other students which greatly increases their chances of getting their choice of classes. student educational plan – a student educational plan is a collaborative map developed by students and our calworks counselor mapping out classes related to the students goals at ccc. textbook and supplies voucher – the textbook and supply voucher is used to verify and acquire educational needs for students.

eligibility is always determined at the beginning of each semester via county cash aid verification form which can be a welfare to work plan printout or other county eligibility forms. county referred participant – tanf/cash aid recipient, with at least one eligible child and was referred to the community college by the county welfare office and has an approved welfare-to-work plan or is in the process of developing a wtw plan. (see all county letter 99-32) voluntary exempt – tanf/cash aid recipient, with at least one eligible child but has been exempted from participating in wtw activities by the county for a reason stated in a county information notice. post-employment participant – this designation applies if the student is off cash assistance due to unsubsidized employment and is in compliance with their county welfare office.

the welfare-to-work (wtw) program is a comprehensive employment and training program designed to promote self-sufficiency. all welfare-to-work participants receive an orientation to the program and appraisal of their education and employment background, followed by the development of a wtw plan designed to assist individuals with obtaining employment. wtw participants may be eligible to supportive services such as child care and transportation services. the calworks welfare-to-work program is open to anyone receiving calworks cash aid. when you apply for calworks cash aid, we will determine if you meet a welfare-to-work requirement. you may be scheduled for a two-week job club where you will learn basic job search skills, resume writing, consumer credit information, and other topics related to preparing you for the job market. you may also have a more in-depth assessment to help you remove any barriers that may be preventing you from finding and keeping a job. support services for placement into a job include training to uncover the “hidden” job market, preparation of a resume, and support in looking for a job.

once placed in a job, you will receive additional help with work supplies and continued help with transportation and child care. the welfare-to-work program can assign you to, and pay for, an approved education or training program that prepares the participant to get a specific job. once the training is completed, additional support is made available to you to find a job in that field. if you continue to receive calworks cash aid, you may also be eligible for transportation, child care and other supportive services to help you advance in your job. if you are otherwise eligible, child care supportive services can continue for 24 months and beyond. we want to provide you with the tools necessary to attain your goal – providing for your family. you may continue to be eligible for job retention services for up to six consecutive months the first time you go off aid due to being employed and up to three consecutive months if you go back on aid and then off again. you can also receive services through the one-stop centers.
